Founded in 1864 and located in the heart of Leamington Spa, Arnold Lodge School is the only co-educational school in South Warwickshire educating girls and boys from Kindergarten to Year 11 (GCSE.)
Teaching and learning at Arnold Lodge School is based on our belief that each child is special and brings to school widely different experiences, aptitudes and capabilities. We think that this individuality should be recognised, respected and developed. In order to make the most of each child's abilities and potential we provide a happy and confident environment to encourage excellence in every aspect of learning. We also give all children the opportunity to develop interests through field trips, cultural visits, music, dance, sport, drama, citizenship programmes and a wide range of lunch time and after school clubs.
At Arnold Lodge school we actively encourage children to become caring members of the school and society. We work hard to ensure that children and adults are valued and respected in all aspects of school life and expect our children to develop and demonstrate a responsible and caring attitude towards others both in and out of school.
Most children enter the school at Kindergarten during the term of their third birthday, thus enabling them to make a smooth transition in to the Reception class in the September following their fourth birthday. We do however welcome applications at any stage up to Year 10 provided there are spaces available. Entrance exams are not required for entry to the school up to and including Year 6. Pupils entering the Senior School at Year 7 and beyond are required to pass an entrance exam which takes place in early January in addition to a 'taster day' and interview (in exceptional cases the entrance exam can be taken at other times of the year.)
An important part of the entry process to Arnold Lodge School for all pupils is a 'taster day'. A prospective pupil is expected to spend a full day at the school with pupils of their own age. In this way a child can get a good feel for the school and teachers can observe performance, social interaction with teachers and fellow pupils and the attributes he or she can bring to the school.
We offer academic awards for Year 3. Year 7 and 9 Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, music, sport and art. These can be up to 50% of the school fees. Applicants for awards and scholarships from both within and outside the school are invited to attend an assessment morning which takes place in January.
Since the expansion of the school to GCSE in September 2008, our aim is to emulate our success as a Preparatory School where over 95% of our pupils gained a place at their first choice of senior school at 11+ and 13+. We will therefore be able to give every child the opportunity of gaining a place at the sixth form or college that will best suit their abilities, talents and aptitude.
